by Laura Caldwell: Grandpa passed into the arms of Jesus at 9:32 this evening, Colorado time. He went peacefully, and I was so blessed to be here with Mom and Sarah. We were all holding his hands when he went. Jesus is our hope and the resurrection and the life. Love you all.

Memorial Biography

Howard McFarland left us and entered into the presence of Jesus September 12th at 9:32 in the evening. He served Him all his life - in Congo, then with International Students, Inc. and then with Spade (the nonprofit he founded). His heart was always for the poor. In fact while he was confused in his last days, he was upset that he was late for a meeting. When we asked what the meeting was for, he said it was for the poor and raising money to help them. A few weeks before he died he was still volunteering down at Springs Rescue Mission serving the homeless. He left this life owning a watch from Walmart (which Sarah is now wearing) and that’s about it. He would not have needed to be honored in any way, but if anyone wishes to, gifts can be sent in his memory to: http://www.spadeinternational.org/ or the community for those with intellectual disabilities that includes his granddaughter. He’d say, “You have to get Hilltop Ranch going before I die. I want to see it,” https://hilltopranch.org
